This community was created to be a place where DBH fans can talk about the game, the characters, headcanons, and anything else they want.  All ships are valid here.  Art, fic, and meta are all welcome!

I'm working on a FAQ post, but one important note for tumblr refugees: the tagging system is different on Dreamwidth!  Accounts, including communities like this, are limited to a certain number of tags.  Since this community is a free account, we're limited to 1000 tags.

I know we're all used to expressing ourselves in tags, and I hate to take away that option. :(  But there are many other ways to express oneself on posts here, from choice of icon, to mood, location and music tags, to other interesting things you'll discover as you go.  :)

The upshot is, you can only use tags at this comm that have been approved by moderators.  I know, I know, you love your tags!  If you want us to add a tag, please add a comment to this post.  To see all currently available tags, go here.

If you have any questions about how DW works or in the comm in general, please feel free to comment here!  We will do our best!

What is a BigBang?

A Bang is a type of fan challenge in which writers and artists of all kinds work together to produce new collaborative content for the fandom. This particular BB is focused on the relationship between Lieutenant Hank Anderson and the android Connor/RK800, from Quantic Dreams’ Detroit: Become Human.

Who is allowed to participate?

Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you’re new to the fandom or has been clinging to DBH from the very first day; this is all regardless of your level of skill and/or popularity across social media!

Is there a theme? (ie. “Home,” “Winter,” “Fluff,” “Blue” etc.)

No theme! The only requirement is to have HankCon as the focus of your piece.

Is this a romantic-only event, or can I come on board whilst having Hank and Connor exclusively in a father-son relationship?

Father-son dynamics are a difficult thing to promise, seeing as this is a ship-oriented event. A few participants, however, have stated to be working on fics without explicit content - more casual storylines, so to speak. As of now, unfortunately, that’s all that can be said on that front.

Are crossovers allowed?

So as long as HankCon remains the focus, absolutely!

What’s the schedule like?

Please check our Schedule page to access all the relevant dates.

Can I continue a piece I’ve been working on or edit an old one?

If they’re already partially published somewhere, then unfortunately no! All entries must be new and worked on with your partner throughout the BB. That being said, you are allowed to use plot bunnies you’ve had for a long time.

What genres/warnings/ratings are allowed?

You can make whatever you’d like! All ratings are welcome as long as they’re tagged accordingly.

What art mediums are accepted?

Traditional art, digital art, moodboards, vids, editing, music, manips, animation; the sky’s the limit!

What are the general requirements for art/fic?

Please check our Guidelines page for detailed information.

Can I co-write with a friend?

Of course! But when submitting your story summary, make sure to list both you guys’ names as writers, so there will be no misunderstandings.

What if I miss a deadline?

Message us ASAP!

What if I need to drop out?

We know sometimes things get out of hand for one reason or another, so you’re free to pull out of the event should the need arise. But if it happens after you’re partnered with someone, make sure to bring it to our attention immediately! The sooner you tell us, the easier we’ll find a pinch-hitter for your assigned partner. Just please understand that by dropping out you are essentially giving up your idea to someone who will take your place; they will not use your work, no, but they need to be able to continue your plans in order to transition smoothly with your former partner.

Wait…what is a pinch-hitter?

A pinch-hitter is someone who steps in if there’s a problem or emergency and a writer or artist needs to drop out. So basically: a savior!

Okay! So how do I sign up?

Artist sign-ups [HERE]
Writer sign-ups [CLOSED]
Beta sign-ups [Opens on January 19]
Pinch-hitter sign-ups [Opens on February 5, if applicable]

General

  • Participants must be respectful of each other and each other’s works;
  • This event has a zero-tolerance policy on LGBTQIAP+ phobias; anyone who violates this will be banned from the BB;
  • If you encounter an issue with your partner or another person in the event, please let the admin know so it can be resolved;
  • If you have an emergency and cannot make a deadline please let us know ASAP;
  • Only new works created specifically for this event are allowed.

Check-ins

  • First check-in | Requirement is to have communication well established with your partner; planning has to have started;
  • Second check-in | Both fic and all art forms must’ve reached 30%–40% of the intended final product;
  • Third check-in | First draft check, both fic and all art forms must amount to at least 75%–85% of its intended final product;
  • Last check-in | Last draft check, all art forms due.

Artists

  • The minimum is one (1) artwork, of any art media you’d prefer; there is no maximum, but all works should be finished by the due date and polished by the posting date;
  • Artists should consider listing any and all triggers and warnings for final posting.

Writers

  • The minimum word count is 10,000; there is no maximum,
  • Multi-chapter fics are allowed but must be completed by the posting deadline;
  • Writers must list any and all triggers and warnings for final posting.

Pinch-hitters

  • All of the above rules apply;
  • Because of the nature of your position, you will have less time to work. So please be aware of that and use your time wisely;
  • Word count can be negotiated on a case by case basis.

Beta-readers

  • The minimum is to beta for at least one (1) writer, but we’d recommend to apply only if you feel inclined to extend a helping hand to a wider number than that;
  • Betas are to offer constructive criticism, keeping in mind the author’s wishes (if grammatical/typo corrections only, seeing to plot holes, inconsistent timelines etc).

Posting

  • General | Posting goes from May 17 to June 7. This time frame will allow multi-chapter fics and any type of accompanying serial art forms the necessary span to be appropriately delivered, and are not to go beyond the deadline regardless of their length. If you are for whatever reason unable to meet these dates, please inform us immediately. Further instructions will be sent through email and Discord’s #announcement channel close to the posting date, so stay tuned for that;
  • Artists | Seeing as we intend to reblog everyone’s works to our Tumblr, yet in the face of recent developments concerning the website’s censorship, you’ll be allowed to foregone posting on Tumblr if your piece features NSFW content; if SFW, posting in the full on Tumblr is preferred, but not required. The only requirement will be to post a SFW-only preview (showing up to 30% of your piece) on Tumblr, adding the appropriate and applicable tags, and your partner’s social media and fic links; to include a teaser or story’s summary is also encouraged, but ultimately to be discussed between writer and artist alone. You may, however, additionally post it on any other social media if you so choose, as well as request your writer to embed your work on their fic on AO3;
  • Writers | If posted on Tumblr, you must add as bulletpoints: title, rating, pairing(s), tags, possible trigger warnings, your partner’s art links/social media, your beta’s social media (if applicable), and summary. You may also allow the first few paragraphs of your story peek through (although we recommend not going beyond 300 words), but the rest of your fic must be put under Read More. If posted on AO3, your fic must be added to our yet-to-be-created Collection, as means to keep all participants’ amazing stories together; much like on posting on Tumblr, you must add your beta’s social media and your partner’s art link(s) to the Author’s Notes or, if you both feel so inclined, to incorporate it into the body of the text.
