THE DRABBLE-A-THON is officially CLOSED to new prompts! But feel free to respond to existing prompts! I've made a list of all unfilled prompts here, please let me know if I missed any!

It's time for DRABBLES! What is a drabble? A drabble is a short story of exactly 100 words. It might sound hard, but the challenge is part of the fun!

Tonight is the last night of Hanukkah and the first night of the Drabble-a-thon. Like Hanukkah, it will last Eight Crazy Nights! It officially starts at 6am Pacific Standard Time, December 9, and will last through 5:59am Pacific Standard Time on December 17th (for the rest of December 17th I have another fun thing planned, which I will announce in a day or two).

To leave a prompt for the drabble-a-thon, just make a comment to this thread. Please try to keep prompts for drabbles to one or two words or a short sentence (your prompt shouldn't be longer than the drabble, after all!) If you have a prompt for a massive AU crossover or something, it would probably be better to stick it on the DBH Kinkmeme. Feel free to also prompt for specific characters/pairings! Rarepair prompts would be awesome! All ships are welcome on this comm, so if a pairing doesn't float your boat, feel free to ignore that prompt and go to the next. :)

I already flailed a lot in the comments section of the fic itself, but I also want to say for the benefit of other comm members, this is REALLY good and worth a read. Even if you don't think you'll like this rarethree, North's characterization is excellent and the whole thing just works, so give it a chance!

Kara, Luther, and Alice celebrate their first holiday as a family T__T

It isn’t such a stretch that Markus should find him here on this day in particular. Most androids find their way to Ferndale to commemorate the occasion. Some choose the morning to avoid crowds; few choose nighttime like Connor does. There’s a coin balanced on the back of his fingers that Markus watches avidly until he flicks it into the frigid water. There are probably twenty scattered now across the rusting hull of Jericho and each one was placed to commemorate a precise moment.

“I owe a debt to Jericho,” Connor says in answer to the question Markus doesn’t ask.

I love it.

With the human calendar embedded in their existence, New Jericho marked out the little anniversaries slowly but surely.

Seven days after winning, as a community, sang "Hold On" in commemoration.

One month, and they did the same.

Having begun as business products, the turn of the quarter saw them do it once more.

And then on the day marking one year of freedom, New Jericho set aside all tasks of rebuilding, or crafting their home, and came back to the scene of the final showdown. There, they raised their voices proudly, led by Markus and Connor.

They had held on.

"Longest night of the year."

Kara looked around the darkness, as the sky was overcast and gloomy. "This far north, it feels endless," she told Luther, leaning against him.

"Will we have Christmas to celebrate Markus's coming?" Alice asked.

Kara glanced down at her daughter, then back to Luther. "I think we should, begin making our own reasons for celebration."

"While we hide them against the human ones, until everyone can be truly safe," Luther agreed, following the idea.

Markus would claim not to be anyone's savior, only a catalyst to what had to happen.

The small family knew better.

Rings didn't fit android fingers. North hated surprises almost as much as she hated human traditions. And restaurants—the traditional spot, according to Carl—weren't exactly popular with androids.

Markus sighed, deep in thought. Android marriages were finally being recognized, but just because it was possible didn't mean she'd say yes.

But—he had to ask. Even if she refused, even if she was angry at the very idea. He loved her too much to be cowardly about this.

He closed his eyes. North, he asked, silently, with a thought and a whisper of electronics. Can I ask you something?

Prompt: Kara & Alice, winter

"Look, the paper's not the important bit, see—"

"I want to get it right," Connor insisted. Forty-five-degree fold, mark the crease, grab the tape—

Hank groaned. "So long as there's a gift underneath, nobody'll care."

"I care." CyberLife's perfect prototype would've never participated in this. Deviant, free, entirely his own person, and here he was struggling with simple human rituals. Frustrating.

"Yeah, I can tell." Hank knelt next to Connor. "Here, let me hold a corner. It'll be easier."

Forty-five-degree fold, mark the crease, tuck the piece Hank held before taping it down—

"Ah," Connor said. "It's perfect. Thank you."

This is so lovely! Oh, North. Oh, Markus.

So adorable. I love Connor's fussiness here and Hank's begrudging willingness to roll with it anyway.

Alice wants a dog, or a phone, or a dress; it varies day-to-day based on what presents her classmates (her classmates, because here she's allowed to play, to learn, to grow) talk about getting.

Luther, when she asks him, laughs and says he wants the squirrels to stop chewing on their wires for once. (The electricity keeps going out; this home is rickety, and old, and theirs.)

Kara watches them—Alice playing on the carpet, Luther on the couch watching with a smile—and realizes there's nothing she can imagine wanting other than this: her family, together, alive and free.
