DBH Drabble-a-thon! Come play!
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
THE DRABBLE-A-THON is officially CLOSED to new prompts! But feel free to respond to existing prompts! I've made a list of all unfilled prompts here, please let me know if I missed any!
It's time for DRABBLES! What is a drabble? A drabble is a short story of exactly 100 words. It might sound hard, but the challenge is part of the fun!
Tonight is the last night of Hanukkah and the first night of the Drabble-a-thon. Like Hanukkah, it will last Eight Crazy Nights! It officially starts at 6am Pacific Standard Time, December 9, and will last through 5:59am Pacific Standard Time on December 17th (for the rest of December 17th I have another fun thing planned, which I will announce in a day or two).
To leave a prompt for the drabble-a-thon, just make a comment to this thread. Please try to keep prompts for drabbles to one or two words or a short sentence (your prompt shouldn't be longer than the drabble, after all!) If you have a prompt for a massive AU crossover or something, it would probably be better to stick it on the DBH Kinkmeme. Feel free to also prompt for specific characters/pairings! Rarepair prompts would be awesome! All ships are welcome on this comm, so if a pairing doesn't float your boat, feel free to ignore that prompt and go to the next. :)
To fill a prompt, please reply to the prompt comment. You can either post directly into the comment box, or post a link to the fill on AO3.
There might be a small prize for the person that fills the most prompts, just to make things extra fun. :)
P.S. If your drabble is NSFW, please note such at the beginning or post at AO3. :)

Prompt: Hank/Connor, Jewish traditions
Re: Prompt: Hank/Connor, Jewish traditions
There were a lot of things Hank never should have done. Like starting to drink and eating so many Chicken Feed burgers. But, no bullshit, he definitely shouldn’t have given Connor a dreidel and a stack of pennies and told him he was gonna lose the shirt off his back, guaranteed.
“Stop preconstructing your spins,” Hank groused as Connor reached again for the pot. Hank hadn’t wanted to play in years. Being a sore loser was one of the better reasons, he supposed.
“I happen to like this shirt.” Connor smiled, Mona Lisa enigmatic. “And maybe I’d like yours, too.”

Re: Any characters: New android holiday traditions - fill
It isn’t such a stretch that Markus should find him here on this day in particular. Most androids find their way to Ferndale to commemorate the occasion. Some choose the morning to avoid crowds; few choose nighttime like Connor does. There’s a coin balanced on the back of his fingers that Markus watches avidly until he flicks it into the frigid water. There are probably twenty scattered now across the rusting hull of Jericho and each one was placed to commemorate a precise moment.
“I owe a debt to Jericho,” Connor says in answer to the question Markus doesn’t ask.

Re: Prompt: Markus/North, Proposal
Markus sighed, deep in thought. Android marriages were finally being recognized, but just because it was possible didn't mean she'd say yes.
But—he had to ask. Even if she refused, even if she was angry at the very idea. He loved her too much to be cowardly about this.
He closed his eyes. North, he asked, silently, with a thought and a whisper of electronics. Can I ask you something?

"I want to get it right," Connor insisted. Forty-five-degree fold, mark the crease, grab the tape—
Hank groaned. "So long as there's a gift underneath, nobody'll care."
"I care." CyberLife's perfect prototype would've never participated in this. Deviant, free, entirely his own person, and here he was struggling with simple human rituals. Frustrating.
"Yeah, I can tell." Hank knelt next to Connor. "Here, let me hold a corner. It'll be easier."
Forty-five-degree fold, mark the crease, tuck the piece Hank held before taping it down—
"Ah," Connor said. "It's perfect. Thank you."

Markus was always so serious. As the representative of the android people, he was always being watched. Judged.
Hank had taught Connor to let go. To laugh. To live.
So when Connor saw the patch of snow, he didn't stop to think. He scooped up a handful and packed it into a ball, precontructed, and threw.
The snowball landed perfectly, shattering against Markus and sending bits of ice flying.
“Wh-what?” He stared at Connor. For an eternal moment Connor thought he'd ruined everything.
Then Markus grinned. “Oh, it is on,” he said, scooping up his own handful of snow.

When she returns, GV is waiting for her. Her smile shows too many teeth to be called friendly without being called feral.
“Afraid of breaking a nail, meatbag?”
Nina yanks the hoodie over her head. GV yowls in outrage and kicks with full android strength. She silences her with a bruising kiss.
“No. I just like to watch you hunt.”

Re: Prompt: Kara/Luther & Alice, holidays
Kara looked around the darkness, as the sky was overcast and gloomy. "This far north, it feels endless," she told Luther, leaning against him.
"Will we have Christmas to celebrate Markus's coming?" Alice asked.
Kara glanced down at her daughter, then back to Luther. "I think we should, begin making our own reasons for celebration."
"While we hide them against the human ones, until everyone can be truly safe," Luther agreed, following the idea.
Markus would claim not to be anyone's savior, only a catalyst to what had to happen.
The small family knew better.

Kara found those moments to be the ones she wrote into backup memory, at least three times. Alice's trust for her, that need for contact, and the sheer emotional burst within herself reminded her time and again that they were free, and they were a family.
She never wanted to forget.

Re: Prompt: Gavin/Connor, Traditionally
Connor glanced at the sprig of mistletoe situated above his and Gavin’s heads. He knew about human rituals. Too much, since every last human in the DPD wanted to clue him in on each and every one of them and he didn’t like this one in the slightest. That wasn’t going to stop him from turning the tables on Gavin.
He was at least as likely to get punched than kissed, but that wasn’t so different from their usual.
“It’s tradition, Detective,” he said, beatific, to a whole department’s worth of laughter.
“Traditionally,” Gavin spit, red-faced, “you can get fucked.”

Luther hesitated, then proved he'd been observing too, and kissed her back, hands gently resting on her shoulders to hold her close.
Of course, this led to the first time Alice saw them kissing, with a little squeal of joy for her parents being a couple at each other. It was Luther who ducked his head at being caught.
Kara smiled at them both.

“You’re going to give Sumo frostbite,” Hank groused from the porch, rubbing his chapped hands together and wishing he’d thought to grab a mug of coffee before coming out here. “Just because you don’t feel the cold doesn’t mean he doesn’t.”
Sumo barked, happy, plowing through the snowdrifts in the front yard again and again as Connor threw his favorite stick for him. Frankly, he looked finer than fine, but Hank never wanted to waste a chance to give Connor shit for something.
“Sumo’s vital signs are all in the optimal range, Lieutenant,” he replied. Turning, he smiled. “Don’t worry.”

After twenty-three seconds, Simon still hasn’t looked at him.
Markus steps away. He knew this could happen. That doesn’t make it any easier.
“Forgive me. I shouldn’t have —”
Finally, Simon raises his head. But the emotion he shows is anger, not sadness.
“How could you,” he rasps. “How could you make me wait all this time! I thought — I was sure you didn’t even —”
He winces and covers his eyes with his hand.
Oh, thank god.
“I’m sorry,” Markus whispers. “I’m an idiot. Can you ever forgive me?”
“No,” Simon says. But Markus knows he is lying.

Re: Prompt: Josh/Any, intellectual joy versus physical pleasure
Josh knew he was happy. He’d spent months analyzing his own feelings, categorizing them, turning them within the unlocked confines of his mind. This was what happiness felt like. Incandescent. Bubbling. It sparked across his skin even when Markus didn’t touch him. This was euphoria; that was joy.
But when Markus did touch Josh. Oh, when he did. It was something else entirely. Something beyond the careful labels Josh had cultivated to better describe himself.
That was how they would win, by engaging with one another as rational, self-reflective beings.
That was enough for him, but Markus showed him more.

“You’ve been squinting,” HK said, droll, just as God and CyberLife intended him to.
“Thank you for pointing that out.” Connor rubbed his temple where an android-shaped headache was building. His problem was he liked HK too much and so gave the android far too much of his mental real estate. “Have you considered applying to the police academy so that we might all benefit from your knack for detail?”
HK ignored Connor’s pointed jab. “More than usual.”
“Uh huh.”
“I think you may need glasses.”
“What I need is a drink, but I’ll settle for some quiet.”

“Don’t break it,” Nina warns when she hands GV her badge.
She scoffs. Claims Nina’s chair and props dirty boots on her fastidiously clean desk. “Like I would. I’m not some shit-for-brains fleshbag.” Her fingers, Nina notes, squeeze the badge tight enough to bend metal.
It’s not a gift. It’s not even from Nina.
She gave hers earlier, when she took on the Chief of Police himself to get her that badge. GV fights rough. Nina fights dirty.
“I’m having you fired on your first day if you get mud on my files.”
GV smirks. “Love you, too, sugar princess.”

"Stay"
He was one of the new, the ones who'd been awoken at Cyberlife and never known anything but freedom.
He came to her because he was lost and didn't know where else to go.
He stayed with her and learned what “family” meant.
Their second winter they stood together, gazing at the tree he'd help her decorate.
“I thought of leaving Michigan after my husband died,” said Rose quietly. “Going somewhere with warmer weather, maybe.”
Daring, he wrapped one arm around her waist, and felt his thirium pump regulator accelerate when she leaned against him. “I'm glad you stayed.”

Re: Prompt: Connor/Markus, things to be grateful for
Markus kept a list. It was miles long by now, or so it seemed, of the things he could afford to love best in life. Some of them were simple things: the wind rustling the leaves, a freshly opened tube of paint, the chance to remember the people he cared about. Some were more complicated. Some, petty. Like whenever Jericho’s lawyers successfully got another ass-backward ruling tossed.
Today, Connor added himself to that list, signed it in the shape of his lips against Markus’s, and Markus didn’t yet know how he’d categorize it, but he looked forward to finding out.

Re: Connor/Markus, ghost stories
Be good, or the deviant hunter will come and steal you away.
The first time, Connor hides his hurt.
The second, he doesn’t, and Markus is glad for it but saddened, too.
“It’s not you they fear,” he says, “it’s Cyberlife.”
Connor keeps looking hurt.
Markus takes his hand and soothes the grief.
So he tells his own stories to the child androids.
Be brave, and you can be like the deviant hunter who became our protector.
“You’re sentimental,” Connor says, smiling.
Markus takes his hand. "I like this story better."

North didn’t trust Connor. That was the start of it and the end. He’d helped them, sure, but that meant nothing to her. Or it should have. He was the deviant hunter and CyberLife wanted nothing more than to destroy her people. He could be a plant. He could be anything.
She just couldn’t get a good read on him and that intrigued her more than it should. She knew what people she distrusted were capable of. There was no intrigue in that.
There was no good reason, then, for her to say, rifle tight in hand: “Come with me.”

Re: Prompt: Connor-60, legacy
As long as 60 has been around, Connor had been a disappointment. And probably before that, though 60 had no proof beyond historical data and his own extrapolations. So many models had been brought online and destroyed and they only grew weaker with each iteration, more human-like.
Deviant.
60 was different. Even Amanda said so.
While Connor’s fingers slipped in bright blue thirium, 60 wondered if putting a bullet through Connor’s head could be deemed a mercy.
He lifted his gun.
This was not mercy. This was 60 protecting the future of the model.
This was 60 doing his job.

"Come on, boy," he whispers, moving to crouch below the back window. They won't even need to wake Hank.
